Have you seen that show the Best Week Ever? It’s a recap of what happened in celeb world that past week. I thought, I could do that on my blog! Here is a photo recap of our week in the Clever House!

My grandfather was inducted into the Arizona Drag Racing Hall of Fame (there is actually a post on this coming next week). How cool is that? That would be my dad and my brother right there.

I got to ride in a race car. AWESOME! That will be in the post too.

Not the best photo but I scored all these goodies for only $5 thanks to yard sales and thrift stores!

Me and a few bloggy friends got to enjoy the new fresh salads at Chick Fil A. They were delicious!

Mom got a new toy (what what) and you can see my full review on it tomorrow!

Clever Guy went out to the desert and just walked around, took some new shots with mom’s cool camera and even thew a few stones out into the sunset.

“Mom, what are you going to do if we see a snake?” Psh, mom is running!” “Without me?!” “No son, I promise to drag you as I’m running!”

I bought a new phone cover, this one is from Amazon and for only $1.77, you can get it too: Love Tree for HTC on Amazon

Sparkles everywhere with my new manicure thanks to Sally Hansen Lady Luck polish. You can get it on Amazon right now for only $3.39

Sally Hansen Gem Crush, Lady Luck

Clever Guy and Clever Tween had their last day of school. Holy moly, Summer already!

I would share a photo of Clever Tween but she was actually brokenhearted she wasn’t going to see her friends every day and wasn’t really in the photo taking mood.

Of course, I worked. Yes this is pretty much how I work everyday…..feet up and headphones on.

This really isn’t anything special of a photo but I did stay with my grandmother this weekend as we helped my mom recover from her Gallbladder Surgery. Please pray for her healing.

How was your week?

(You should know, there are affiliate links in here to Amazon, I did get that salad for free and the camera is part of a sponsored opportunity)

It’s been 2 weeks since my last post. Yikes! It wasn’t intentional I promise, things have just been busy these last few weeks. I went to three blogging conferences, I’ve had 3 school events, a 5K, a blogger event that I hosted myself, I joined a gym and oh ya, I got the sinus infection of death. I’ve finally had a chance to recover and take a breather. I’ve slowly gotten back into the groove of things and hopefully I can share some creativity with y’all soon.

One of the biggest things to happen to me in the last few weeks is I attended #SoFabCon (that is So Fab Con, not Sofa Bacon, though I think a sofa bacon conference would be cool too). Anyways, SoFab was great because I got to connect with my work peeps and the bloggers I have worked with over the past few years on various campaigns. It was really amazing. I’ll be working on recaps soon but one of the biggest things to come out of So Fab was the final keynote from Jasmine from http://thebrokins.com/. She not only put on this fabulous conference, she did an amazing key note (at the last minute, total rockstar) . She shared with us how she turned her struggles into triumphs but only because she always shows her true self. She just puts it all out there and is completely transparent. During the keynote, she shared a story about when she was first married and how she was having Thanksgiving at her house and she had this white bone china and how she wanted everything to appear as perfect. I thought, holy crap, that’s me all the time.

I want to thank Linqia and TakePart.com for giving me an opportunity to talk about something important as a mom of two school aged children.

Bullying is a serious problem that affects communities across the country. Whether it’s name calling, cyberbullying, or physical violence, it needs to stop.

If you were to ask me what was the toughest part of growing up, I would probably say growing up a girl. Of course I am speaking one sided here but it was really tough always trying to “fit in” and I felt like I always struggled  with the being in with the “popular girls”. It’s not that I wanted to be popular, I just wanted to not get picked on or bullied against. Girls can be mean. Just downright cruel sometimes with no reasoning besides just to be mean. I still remember some of the things girls said to me in Jr High that emotionally scarred me back then.

I’m sure most of us have seen the movie mean girls, a funny take on the life of the popular girls. While I love this movie, it’s just a movie and not a true depiction of how mean girls can be. It saddens my heart everyday when I hear about bullying with kids and the unfortunate end results. It saddens my heart that 13 million kids get bullied every year. That is just a crazy!

How do you deal with this as a mom? I’d love to protect my kids from the evils of the world. All I can do though is have a listening ear and educate them on stages through life life. This includes keeping them in the know on how to deal with bullying situations at school. Of course with social media and texting this is even harder to battle. When talking to my kids especially Clever Tween who has access to these

Here are the key points I talk to my kids about when we discuss bullying and issues with kids at school:

  •  No one can make you feel anything, you are in control. Words hurt but they are not permanent.
  • You are amazing and if anyone bullies you it’s because they don’t value their own self worth and they think they can feel better by hurting others.
  • If you have an issue with someone who is threatening or bullying, come to me and/or a teacher. This is the same if you see someone else getting bullied at school as well.
  • If you receive a text or message from someone, please talk to me about it.

So what if you are in a scenario when your child doesn’t tell you? I can tell you I was just in this situation. I had saw a message on my daughter’s phone that was uncalled for. I talked to her about it and I actually went to the teacher. The teacher did a great job helping talk to the kids and diffused the situation. Clever Tween was a little embarrassed but I felt I had to do something. My first instinct was to get all mama bear and call the parents but I wanted to start the chain appropriately.

While we can’t control what happens in our kids lives we can educate them and vow to talk to them about bullying from BOTH sides of the fence! Our kids need to know that words impact us in so many ways even if it’s just teasing. I always tell my kids, treat others how you want to be treated. If you or someone you know is being bullied, let’s work together to squash it.

I haven’t seen the movie yet but the Bully movie (pictured above) looks like something my tween and I should watch. If you have watched it let me know your thoughts!

Please take a few minutes to sign the petition to stop bullying.

A couple weeks ago we had a fun family staycation in Scottsdale, AZ. We had a weekend full of fun and we did a lot in just a few days! With the help of http://www.experiencescottsdale.com, we were able to plan a reasonably priced staycation that didn’t break our budget The website has a lot of info to plan a trip to Scottsdale including great deals on resort stays and info for families! Whether you are a native to Phoenix or you are traveling across country to come to Scottsdale, you should definitely order your complimentary guide http://www.experiencescottsdale.com/plan-your-trip/visitor-guide/. This helped me plan our trip and it made my life easy.

On Saturday we checked out fun things to do with the kids and Sunday we did a fun day just for adults. Check out our weekend below!

Saturday:

CrackerJax

The kids and I had a blast at CrackerJax on a beautiful Spring day! At this Scottsdale amusement park they have:

  • Miniature Golf (3 courses)
  • Bumper Boats
  • Go Karts
  • Minature Golf
  • Bungy Dome
  • Water Wars

The kids and I took advantage of the wristbands where we got to ride unlimited Go Karts, Bumper Boats and Miniature Golf. This was an even better bonus because we found a coupon on Facebook!

I’ve lived in Phoenix all of my life and I thought I’d done it all, seen it all. I was wrong. I was asked by Scottsdale Convention & Tourism Bureau to “explore Scottsdale”. When I looked at their website, I noticed there was so much I’ve never done.  So much to do and so much to see from the activities, shopping, dining etc. We decided to spend our Spring Break in Scottsdale!

One thing I found on the site that I knew my kids would like was the Desert Belle.  It is a boat cruise on Saguaro Lake that happens every day throughout the week throughout the day.  Most are narrated  where the captain explains the history of the area along with teaching about wildlife in the area. The 5:00 one we went on actually had a live band which was pretty cool. They played some fun songs that even my kids danced too! We did the 5:00 tour because I knew it was around sunset (and as you can see in the above photo, I was right). So we got to see the day features as well as the ones at sunset right before dark! Here are a few photos from our trip!
