Hello and welcome to another Clever Guy Friday! If you are looking for a fun indoor craft featuring dinosaurs, this one is a fun and easy craft project. The hardest part is waiting for it to try! This craft only takes two ingredients and you can use any toy dinosaur but we love these skeleton ones! Don’t worry, you can clean the dinosaurs right off!
DIY Dinosaur Fossil Craft
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of plaster of paris
- 1 cup of water
- You’ll also need:
- large plastic bowl
- plastic dinosaurs
- petroleum jelly
- You’ll also need:
Directions:
- Coat the dinosaurs thoroughly in petroleum jelly so that they will ease out of the plaster and will be easier to clean.
- Mix the water and plaster of paris until it is well mixed.
- Allow the mixture to set for 2 minutes.
- Place the dinosaurs in the mixture, make sure they are set but not completely covered.
- Allow to set for 12-24 hours.
- Take a sharp knife, slowly cut the edges of the plaster. Bend the bowl a bit to try to separate the plaster from the bowl.
- Once the plaster is removed, slowly remove the dinosaurs from the plaster.
- Wash the dinosaurs with some soap and water.
- Your kids can leave the fossils as is OR they can paint them.
Just a few tips:
- You can adjust the recipe as long as you use two parts plaster of paris, 1 part water.
- The plaster of paris will wash off dishes, toys etc but be sure to wash them soon after.
- Try other fun things like leaves, plastic animals etc.
- You can try a 3D fossil by placing the dinosaur in modeling clay and then pour the plaster in there. Once dry, remove the clay from the plaster.
Have you ever made these?
