This weekend we took a trip to Lake Pleasant in northwest Peoria. This lake is great for us because we don’t live very far from it and it’s a perfect place to escape the warm weather. The weather was perfect, the water wasn’t terribly cold and we even found a little cove to campout for the day.
Lake Pleasant is a perfect getaway if you live in the Phoenix area. Especially if you are in the North or West part of the valley because it’s not more than an hour from these area. The lake itself is beautiful and clear and if you find a quiet spot, it’s like a little paradise.
I purchased this inflatable kayak from Amazon for around $60. If you’ve gone kayak shopping, you know that these are quite pricey. Even used ones can cost you a couple hundred dollars. When I found this so cheap, I wasn’t sure how it would work but for $60, I had to try it. We took it out on Lake Pleasant and it was awesome! I haven’t been kayaking in years and this was a perfect opportunity for me to try again. The kayak was easy to set up and maneuver on the lake. Even against the windy current, I felt very safe and secure in this kayak. This kayak comes with the pump and the paddle. For $60, you can’t go wrong! If you live in Phoenix, I highly recommend looking into this Kayak here on Amazon. This is an affiliate link but I really did fall in love with it and bought another one for the family!
UPDATE: You may find that this is no longer available at $60 something dollars. It is currently under $100 though and still worth it. It may be available again at $60 so I recommend putting it in your Amazon cart and just watch for the price to drop!
Lake Pleasant in Arizona
Where: Just miles northwest of the 303/99th avenue exit and Peoria.
When to go: Lake Pleasant is open all year round. As the weather warms, the more popular the lake becomes. I recommend getting there early to get a good spot but know there aren’t too many isolated spots there so you’ll more than likely have some close company. If you love tent camping, there are some neat spots!
Cost: $6/day, there are annual pass options as well.
Amenities: You can camp, picnic, swim and rent boats, kayaks etc.
