Finally, I am ready to do my wrapup for SNAP! It has taken me a bit to get back in the swing of things at home with work, kids and such.
Here are the top things I took from the sessions at SNAP:
- Be personable so your readers can relate to you. Sharing personal aspects in your life allows readers to not only relate to you but helps them know you more as a person.
- Don’t be afraid to take risks or you won’t get anywhere. In order to grow not only a blog but personally, you can’t be afraid to put yourself out there, try new things and constantly set goals.
- Style is everything you do. When defining your style, take in account everything from clothes, to decorating to writing style.
- Powertools are awesome. It’s true, I learned more about powertools in an hour than I ever thought I would at a blogging conference. Whether you are a DIY blogger or looking to just do a makeover on a single piece of furniture, educate yourself on how to use powertools and don’t be afraid to use them!
- When writing, follow the 3 O’s; Opinion, Originality and Ownership. As bloggers we have an advantage to share our true opinions with the world. We also have the chance to share our original projects, ideas, thoughts etc. Lastly, we can own our brand, our content etc.
- As a blogger, make sure your posts, projects and tutorials are thoroughly explained, interesting and have clear photos.
- Best times to reach out to the media outlets to be featured are January, March, June and August. Don’t be afraid to reach out to newspapers and local TV news/lifestyle shows because this is a new platform to drive readers to your blog.
- Blogging is expensive. It’s that old saying , you have to spend money to make money. Whether it’s investing in power tools or investing in a camera (for me, it will be a better computer and newer lens) if you want to be successful, you have to make an investment.
- Summarize your brand in 3 words. This is branding 101, can you explain your blog & brand in 3 words? I’m thinking for me it’s Frugal Crafting Adventures or Creative & Frugal Adventures. Hmmm Creative & Frugal Creative Crafting Adventures? Sure that’s 5 words, I’ll work on that though.
- Stenciling projects can be easy peasy. Start with a “dry brush” (a brush dipped in paint, then blotted on a papertowel) then make quick steady strokes.
- Finally, and this is just merely an observation but I don’t have a mustard yellow cardigan. Why is this important to include in my recap? For reals, I think at least 75% of the bloggers at SNAP had a yellow cardigan!

I want to take a minute to thank the fabulous sponsors of SNAP! We got some really cute SWAG to take home that I can’t wait to try once I get back in my creative room this week!
Also, if you ever find yourself in Salt Lake City in April, make it a priority to get to the Tulip Festival in Thanksgiving Point, UT! Here are just a few shots I got, you don’t get this in Phoenix!!
