I’ve made homemade butter twice now. I’d love to say I worked so hard and churned for hours to get this to happen but if you know me, that’s not me. I am all about easy peasy and this was pretty easy and I only used two items:
Betty *my pretty green Kitchenaid Mixer and heavy whipping cream (I used Horizon organic cream).
In fact, not only was I able to make butter but I made whipped cream, butter and buttermilk from one regular sized carton of cream! I’m going to share the tutorial on how to do all 3!
First, I poured the whipping cream in and beat on 6 for about3 minutes. I then turned it up to 8 for about 2 – 3 minutes until it reached the “whipped cream” stage.
Once it reached the stage, I took out about 1 cup out and put it in a mixing bowl with 2 tablespoons of raw sugar and 1/4 tsp of vanilla. I stored it in the fridge for some strawberry shortcake.
Once that was done, I put the mixer back on 8 and whipped for about 7 minutes. After this time the butter starts to form and the “buttermilk” starts to separate.
After 8 minutes on the 8 speed, I took the butter and put it in a bowl, pressing out the buttermilk and pouring it in a separate bowl. I saved the buttermilk in a bowl in the fridge. The final process involves washing it with ice water, continuously pressing the buttermilk out and washing it with the ice cold water. I didn’t save the water/milk from washing it in the ice water.
I finished by forming it in a “stick” form and refrigerating it. I also saved the buttermilk to use in a recipe which I will share tomorrow!
Have you ever made homemade butter?

No, I haven’t! But I have made whipped cream (also with my Kitchen Aid!) from cream and I have wondered how much longer I would have to whip it to make butter – this is awesome!!

Whipped Cream….as in the heavy whipping cream they use in all butter recipes? I’ve been looking for that! (if I’m reading that right…)

Yes, right from the heavy whipping cream container 🙂
