Experiments
Lava Jars
Kids can easily make lava jars and watch a reaction when they add all of the below items together. These are pretty cool but I will warn you, you need to put the lid on FAST!
What you’ll need:
- Water
- Vegetable or cooking oil
- Food Coloring
- Alka Seltzer
- Jars (Mason jars are perfect)
Take the cooking oil and fill a jar about 1/4 way full. Fill the rest of the jar with water until you are about 1-2 inches. Add a couple drops of food coloring. Have your lid ready, add 1 alka seltzer and drop it in. Quickly secure that lid because if you don’t you’ll see the reaction all of your floor! Otherwise in the jar, it will make a really cool volcanic action.
Candy Experiment:
Do you have an excess of candy from Halloween? This is a fun experiment for kids and it’s safe.
What you’ll need:
- Vinegar, Water, Sparkling Water and any other liquids that are safe for kids to handle.
- Halloween Candy
- Other kitchen items such as baking soda, salt etc.
Smoky Bubbly Jars
These are a lot of fun and super easy. All you need is dish soap, food coloring, water and dry ice. Take water and food coloring and fill the jars then add a couple drops of dish soap. Last, you’ll drop in a small chunk of dry ice. Watch the bubbles soar AND the kids can grab those bubbles and make them pop into smoke! It’s pretty cool!
Treats:
Bloody Worms (Jello & Worms)
These are super easy! Just pitre dishes filled with Jello and worms. I put the Jello and worms in at the same time and let them set for a few hours.
Zombie Nachos (Apple S’more Nachos)
- Apple Slices
- Chocolate Pudding
- Crushed Graham Crackers
- Marshmallows
- Melted white chocolate
Mix it all together for a fun treat!
Decor:
I love the pickle jars to make mad science jars. You can put in items from the dollar store an just color the water! We did 3 different jars, one filled with tonic water so it glowed blue under UV light, one jar with red food coloring and water and the last jar had water with glow in the dark paint mixed in. I purchased a long black light at Walmart for under $11, it was a steal and it’s available in the light bulb section all year round.
I purchased that electric orb up at the top at the Swap Meet for only a buck. Proof that you can be thrifty when it comes to party decor.
Worms in Brain Soap! I just made soaps like I did here and this time I put in gummy worms!
