This weekend we set out to grill some delicious foods. We had 6 kids all weekend with our four and my daughter’s friend along with my nephew so feeding 8 was definitely more simple with throwing some burgers and steaks on the grill. Not only is grilling easy in the Summer, it keeps the house much cooler since all the cooking is done outside!
We went to Smart and Final to get some meat to BBQ and we found some choice steak cuts from their Cattleman’s Beef. Cattleman’s definitely has a lot to offer including large slabs of beef, if you are the recreational griller, you have to check out their meats. After taking a look at all the meat, we decided on Rib Eyes. I mean, how could we not, they are our favorite!
These steaks were so good once we grilled them. Also, the price! Under $7 each for Rib Eye Steaks, you can’t get better than that! We also got some turkey for burgers for the kids, I always seem to get my turkey at Smart and Final as they have the best price on them!
When it was time to grill, we put the burgers on early enough for the kids to enjoy but then we let the coals sit for a bit before adding more our steaks. I personally like mine medium so we only cooked them for about 10 minutes with a BBQ rub.
These Cattleman’s steaks were so good, I couldn’t finish mine! I kept the leftovers for a steak sandwich for lunch the next day. Now that I think about it, I am kinda bummed I didn’t buy more Cattleman’s steak for our freezer. I will definitely be back for more!
I decided to make my own BBQ sauce for the first time. Did you know that High Fructose Corn Syrup is in almost every store bought BBQ sauce? Now that I know how to make my own, never again will I need to buy it!
Homemade BBQ Sauce
Ingredients:
- 3/4 c of Ketchup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of steak sauce
- 1/8 cup of soy sauce
- 1 tsp of mustard
- 1.5 tablespoons of dried onion
- 1/2 teaspoon of onion salt
Directions:
Mix all together then refrigerate until ready to serve. This is really easy and I used items I already had on hand!
I also made some delicious Smore’s in the BBQ for the kids. They were SO easy and they were done in about 5 minutes!

that all looks so delicious! I usually do semi-homemade using store-bought and adding nutritious purees like blueberries. I am going to have to try to make your bbq sauce recipe!
