Some of my favorite gifts to give are put inside jars! Since I make this Simmering Christmas Potpourri every year, I had the idea to gift it to neighbors. This potpourri really makes the house smell wonderful. It’s a tradition that I hope to pass down to my kids because it’s simple yet there’s something about that smell that makes me happy.
This gift starts with a case wide mouth pint jars that you can buy on Amazon.
Christmas Potpourri in Mason Jars
Inside the jars:
Whole allspice, cloves, whole anise and cinnamon sticks. On top of that are branches of a Christmas tree, cranberries, and an orange. You can easily make a great number of jars in less than 10 minutes.
To assemble, simply layer each of the ingredients starting with the spices at the bottom of the jars.
Save money tip:
Buy spices when they are on sale and stock up!
About the aroma:
If you do not care for the smell of black licorice, you will want to omit the anise as it has an odor that is very similar to black licorice. Some people like it, some people do not.
Directions for the potpourri:
Pour the ingredients in a pot, fill with water then simmer on the stove for 2-3 days on low. Keep an eye on it and add more water when it gets low.
FREE PRINTABLE:
Print the free direction sheet here onto cardstock then cut and tie it onto the jars.
