Saving money is probably one of the top priorities when planning a vacation. There are so many products out there geared towards travelers but a lot of the basics you can pick up at your local dollar store! From toothbrushes to hand sanitizer, I’m sharing 20 things you can buy from the dollar store for your next vacation!
Below are the top 20 things you should buy at the dollar store before your next vacation!
Kids Activities
If you have little ones, you’ll want to make sure they have things to keep them busy on the plane and in the car. The dollar stores have lots of portable activities you can take on the road.
Toiletries
You don’t have to risk not finding toiletries in your hotel or Airbnb if you bring your own! There are small containers available at most dollar stores. I also found a whole section of travel toiletry items at our local Dollar Tree. Remember, 3.4 ounces is the limit even for toothpaste!
First Aid Items
First aid items like bandaids are a must when you travel whether you get a blister or a papercut!
Ear Plugs
Many people have trouble sleeping when they are away from home when the hotel walls are a bit thin so traveling with a pair or two of earplugs is always a smart move.
Snacks
From gum to chips, snacks from the dollar store are a perfect size for carryons and backpacks.
Luggage Tags
I found a few good luggage tags at our local Dollar Tree!
Sunglasses
If you happen to be like me, you probably misplace your sunglasses a time or two when you travel. Leave your expensive ones at home and bring a pair or two from the dollar store.
Extra Baby Items
I went to buy extra pacifiers at the store recently and I was blown away how much they are now! Grab one or two from the dollar store to keep them as backups in your diaper bag.
Baby Travel Items
Speaking of baby items, there are some things you can grab from the dollar store to help make your travels easier like disposable high chair placemats.
Sanitizing Wipes and Hand Sanitizer
Between the flu and different viruses, one of the best things you can travel with are items to help prevent the spreading of germs.
Door Stops
Okay, this is a bit of an odd one but hear me out, this is perfect for keeping strangers out if you put the doorstop on the inside of your door when you are in there. True story, one time I was given a key and access to someone else’s room!
Phone Chargers and Ear Buds
It never hurts to bring an extra cord to charge your devices especially at only $1 apiece.
Carabiners
These are great for adding extra items to the outside of your suitcase like these waterbottles from Amazon.
Ziploc Bags
From keeping your toiletries from getting on your clothes to rolling up your clothes for a tighter fit, ziploc bags are great to travel with!
Contact Lens Case
These cases can be a bit pricey so grab one from the dollar store. Did you know you can also use these to transport creams and makeups when you don’t want to bring the whole container? I read a hack recently that these are perfect for foundations!
‘Pill Containers
This is an easy way to save room in your suitcase. Remember to take pictures of your pill bottles and pills on your phone so you remember what you packed or if you get asked by TSA.
Basic Necessities
From toothbrushes to hairbrushes, don’t forget to grab some everyday items.
Extra Hair Ties
I always throw up my hair when traveling so extra hair ties definitely don’t hurt.
Vacuum Storage Bags
These are perfect for shrinking space in your luggage with your clothes!
Just in Case Items
There’s nothing worse than trying to track down cold and flu items when you are away from home and feeling crummy. Grab some vitamines and cough drops while you are at the dollar store.
