A couple weeks ago we had a fun family staycation in Scottsdale, AZ. We had a weekend full of fun and we did a lot in just a few days! With the help of http://www.experiencescottsdale.com, we were able to plan a reasonably priced staycation that didn’t break our budget The website has a lot of info to plan a trip to Scottsdale including great deals on resort stays and info for families! Whether you are a native to Phoenix or you are traveling across country to come to Scottsdale, you should definitely order your complimentary guide http://www.experiencescottsdale.com/plan-your-trip/visitor-guide/. This helped me plan our trip and it made my life easy.
On Saturday we checked out fun things to do with the kids and Sunday we did a fun day just for adults. Check out our weekend below!
Saturday:
CrackerJax
The kids and I had a blast at CrackerJax on a beautiful Spring day! At this Scottsdale amusement park they have:
- Miniature Golf (3 courses)
- Bumper Boats
- Go Karts
- Minature Golf
- Bungy Dome
- Water Wars
The kids and I took advantage of the wristbands where we got to ride unlimited Go Karts, Bumper Boats and Miniature Golf. This was an even better bonus because we found a coupon on Facebook!
While Clever Guy had to ride with mom, we still had fun and kicked butt on the course. I think we probably did the karts at least 11 times. We then ventured over to the bumper boats and miniature golf. After all the fun, we took advantage of the snack bar and got icees and ice cream (yummm).
Clever Tween got a hole in one on a Par 4. She’s obviously very humble!
Movie Studio Grill
After CrackerJax, we found our way to Studio Movie Grill where we watched the Croods in 3D. This was our first time at the Studio Movie Grill and the kids and I loved it. I was actually surprised how inexpensive this movie theater was. The prices were right in line with regular movie prices! The bonus is getting to sit in comfortable chairs and getting to order food and beverages without leaving our seats. The staff was very friendly too! I also enjoyed how you can purchase your movie tickets online and pick where you are going to sit. No worrying about finding a god seat when you get there with this feature!
Sunday
The next day I set out with friends to have fun in Old Town Scottsdale! We first started out with some breakfast at Lolo’s Chicken and Waffles located at Thomas and Scottsdale Road. If you have never had Lolo’s you are missing out. I personally love to eat the chicken and waffles together! If you go:
- Order the Sweet Tea (you can’t go wrong)
- Try a few different things, each one in your party should order something unique that everyone can try and share!
- Go early or late on the weekend. If you go between 11-3, you’ll be in for at least a 30 minute wait.
It was a beautiful Sunday and we set out to take in the art side of Scottsdale at the Art A’fair with the Scottsdale Center of Performing Arts where there was live music and vendors. We also visited the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art
I’ve actually never been to SMOCA and it was beautiful. The exhibits & art were interesting and we even got a little hands on as you can see from my fabulous drawing above. Lucky us, we got in free that day!
The current exhibits include:
PAOLO SOLERI: MESA CITY TO ARCOSANTI and MASHUP: NEW VIDEO ART
After walking around the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary art, we walked to the Old Tavern Bar. It’s small but definitely a fun bar if you are looking for a laid back atmosphere. We also walked around Old Town and the Art Fest on 5th avenue and did some window shopping in the galleries. You really could spend all weekend just in Old Town, there is so much to do especially if you want a feel for the Old West.
After walking around and seeing the sun set, we finally settled in to eat some Sushi at Stingray Sushi. When you hear sushi in Scottsdale you may think expensive but I was surprised at how reasonable it was. We had dinner and drinks for under $40!

I have a very good friend in Phoenix that I’ve been wanting to visit for so long – she always talks about Scottsdale and this is the type of fun I’d like to have with her (she just had a cancer scare). Thanks for sharing, it looks so fun and yummy, hope to make it out soon!!!
