During the last part of the year, I noticed I fell into a cooking rut. I mean I absolutely love cooking meals and baking and I was at a point where I was getting take out and doing simple dinners and I will even admit to doing processed foods (hangs head in shame). We had some really trying times last year and I was tired of cooking the same meals over and over.
Then my mom gave me the best present ever and I decided to get into the cookbook cabinet. I took down some cookbooks and marked my recipes but wanted more. So, I hit upĀ my local Goodwill on 50% off day (woot) and looked at the cookbooks. I was excited to find The Pressured Cook: Over 75 One-Pot Meals In Minutes on sale for $1.50! This book originally retails for over $20 and I definitely needed some new recipes for my pressure cooker. BTW, I have the pressure cooker pictured below and I just saw on Amazon it’s only $90 something. It’s electric and really easy to use. I was terrified to try it at first because I was certain it would blow but seriously, when you release the pressure it’s so easy.
So going back to the cookbooks, above are cookbooks I have picked up at different thrift stores and I’ve easily saved a lot of money and got my cooking mojo back just by purchasing used cookbooks!
More frugal ideas for getting the cooking mojo back:
- Check out books at the library
- Follow cooking blogs
- Host or attend a dinner prep party where you and other guest will bulk cook new recipes together and everyone takes a dish or two home. If you did this a few times a month it would be a lot of fun!
- Cooking Apps, I downloaded dinner spinner from AllRecipes.com and it’s a lot of fun! You tell it what you are looking for and it comes up with a random dinner. It’s a great way to try something new!
