80+ blog buddies got together to bring you 80+ DIY Halloween costumes, including the 5 Minute Pirate Costume. I’m teaming up with Jamie Dorobek and her handmade Halloween costume site, Really Awesome Costumes to bring y’all tons of easy ideas to craft up DIY Halloween costumes for everyone including your pets, family costumes, and even a trunk or treat idea!
Have you ever found yourself in a pinch for a costume? Like when you realize you can’t find a piece to your child’s normal costume or you realize Halloween is only a few days away but you haven’t bought a costume yet? I may know what this is like. We usually have a backup costume for when we need it in a pinch. Luckily, I have a headstart this year and created a fun pirate costume with the Clever Guy!
This costume is great because it took only about 5 minutes to make and I was able to use things I already had on hand!
DIY Easy Pirate Costume
What you’ll need:
- Old black shirt
- Skull and crossbones vinyl
- Red or black hankerchief
- Jeans
- White Shirt
- Accessories: eye patch, sword, hook etc.
How to make the vest:
Take the black shirt and cut the collar off along the seam. After the collar cut the hems of the bottom and the sleeves. Cut slices in the bottom of the shirt about 1.5 inches up. Finally, cut the front of the shirt in half.
Finish with a vinyl skull and crossbones. I cut mine on the Cricut out of plain white vinyl and adhered it to the front.
For the belt, I actually cut a strip out of a large piece of felt but you could use the seam from the bottom of the shirt as well.
That’s it! Just dress your pirate up in the rest of the costume and you are done!
