I can’t believe August is already over and hello, here is September! It’s actually been over 2 weeks since my last blog post (that kind of sounds like a confession). But really, it is. I have been so busy this past month, it’s sort of a blur!
So what has been happening in the Clever house?
Well right at the end of July, we made a trip out to the San Diego area. It was beautiful.
Clever guy got to go to Lego Camp the week before school, how cool is that?!
Then of course, school started. It has been nice to do a routine again but getting back into the groove has been a challenge. I mean we’ve got homework and Volleyball and parent meetings. Not to mention making sure the kids have clean school uniforms (because apparently they frown upon wearing dirty ones) and then there are lunches. Oh why do tweens have to be so picky? Apparently the tween wasn’t eating lunch at school as she has said the food there is gross (this is a common theme at this age according to her doctor of a 13 and 14 year old). Well her teacher said she would not sign her grade sheet for Vball if she didn’t eat lunch daily not that I mind but yes, I am still packing this girl’s lunch. So ya, still working on that groove.
I also have to announce, I am not a parent of a clever tween anymore as she officially has crossed over into the land of teens.
That is right, she has turned, 13. Yep, still in denial about this. I mean, how does one little grow up so fast 🙁
Among all this, the kids have also both had health issues which we have been in urgent care for, doctors appointments and done enough blood work to feed a small family of vampires. Clever Guy has been experiencing tummy problems, we found out he had sever bowel blockage (TMI? Sorry). We just could not figure out why he was in pain every time he ate after changing his diet didn’t seem to help we had a stomach x-ray done and bam! The doctors had discovered the dam of poo. Luckily after a treatment, he seems to be doing better.
Clever Teen had severe sunburns after we returned from La Jolla. Mom fail and a tween fail all in one. I handed her the sunblock and said put this on your face. Well apparently because I did not say all over your body, she didn’t and therefore got 2nd degree burns. Forget the fact that this girl has been in Swim Team for 3 years and has put sunblock on every Summer, she didn’t know she had to put it all over her body. Oy! We ended up going to the ER because during the next weekend it started looking like a zombie bite with green hues. She had to be placed on an antibiotic pill and cream. Luckily, she is better. Although she has also had some other health issues but we are still waiting on blood work to come back to find out . We’re hoping & praying it’s actually nothing but if you are the praying kind, we’d love for you to send them her way.
But she wasn’t the only one who failed to put sunblock on all over….
Along with dealing with everything, I’ve of course been working and I am trying to take on more hours to hopefully save up for a new car this Fall. You know, one where the AC will work after you fix it a few times, one where things don’t randomly fall off and one where things simple as seat levers work. However, mom duties seem to always trump that one and it looks like the Clever Teen will more than likely get braces instead.
There are really good things about August though like I started taking country dance lessons, by myself because I couldn’t find anyone to go with me but I don’t care, I still have fun! One thing I wanted to do when I became a single mom was to try to do fun things that was outside of the box for me.
By the way, Clever Vader came home with us from Legoland. We’ve been having some fun together, you can check out his adventures under my Instagram at http://www.instagram.com/cleverpirate
I did manage to get out with a friend the other night (a total rare experience for this girl), it was a lot of fun!
Pumpkin Spice Lattes came out, ohhhhh ya!
Clever Co Parent and I tackled Sushi making. Wow, talk about a process of learning but it worked! I’ll be sharing my resources in another post.
