I announced at the first of the month that I was very excited to participate in the Handmade Gift Exchange with Craftaholics Anonymous. After I had gotten my giftee’s info I started thinking. What was I going to make? Would they like it? I mean typically my crafts are upcycles but I wanted to send her something fabulous. My friend Heather from Brie Brie Blooms came over for the Pinterest party and she was working on a twined monogram and I thought, I could do that! She generously shared with me a letter and some tips on how to do it.
My giftee’s first name started with an R, I didn’t think it would be too hard. It wasn’t hard, although it did involve a lot of technical placing. The tutorial that inspired this is here: http://www.twotwenty-one.com/2011/09/jute-wrapped-monogram-wreath_13.html
- Paper Mache Letter (found at Hobby Lobby, Joanns etc)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Flower Kit from http://www.mylazydaisy.net/Cloreena/
I wrapped every square inch as best I could with the twine. In between wraps (about an inch or two) I would adhere the twine with the hot glue. The flower from the link mentioned above was pretty neat. It was already cut, I just had to assemble it, hand stitch it, sew it then place a button on the front. I then adhered that to the twine with hot glue.
I wanted to send something to accompany the letter, something she could show off so I also made her some jewelry with a kit from PickYourPlum.com and items from Joanns and Hobby Lobby!
Here’s a quick tip, if you use E-6000 glue and it gets on you, it’s easy to get off. Just scrub your hands with lemon juice. It also helps the awful smell!
