DIY Gifts, Laundry Soap, Soup Mix and Bathroom in a Jar via @CleverPirate

There are a few things you should know about me.

  • I’m a procrastinator. I wait until the last minute OR I find I have over a million ideas I want to do before an event and of course I have to execute on them all making me run out of time for all that creativity.
  • I’m cheap. I said it, I’m on a budget and well I can’t afford large gifts for others around the holidays so I tend to make things.
  • I like to give practical.  Ever find yourself with a gift that you wondered what on earth you were gonna do with? Ya I try not to be that person trying to “guess” what one would like, instead I channel my creativity and give gifts that anyone could use.

So that brings me to this post, gifts in a jar ideas. I found there are lots of “treats” in a jar out there for gifts but not a lot beyond that. So I created 3 gifts I am sharing with you today!

Homemade DIY Laundry Soap Mix in a Jar via @CleverPirate

Homemade Laundry Soap

Find my recipe for this here: http://cleverpinkpirate.com/2012/01/09/diy-make-your-own-laundry-soap/

It’s not really on the top of everyone’s list but it is an inexpensive way to give someone a gift that they can A) Use frequently and B) Will save them money!

Last January I shared how I made my own laundry soap. Well I am happy to report that it ran out this month which means it lasted me nearly a year! A Year without buying laundry soap which saved me easily at least $75! I used it in my HE washer and it worked great! A little bit really does go along way and our clothes look awesome too!

I took a jar I found at Goodwill and painted the front panel with chalkboard paint. Then filled it and wrote on the top the directions along with a measuring spoon. Since I split this batch with one I made for myself, this literally cost under $5!

10 Bean Soup Mix in a Jar via @CleverPirate

Soup Mix in a Jar

This one is a favorite of mine because it is less than $2 to make and perfect for Winter. I went to Sprouts and took advantage of their bin sale where I found this 10 bean soup mix! I poured the mix in mason jars and was done. I also printed out the directions to include with the soup (I took a picture of the directions that were on the bin so I could write them up at home).

Bathroom in a Jar gift via @CleverPirate

Bathroom in a Jar

Perfect for a college student or a young adult. This jar features items that can be used in the bathroom and the jar can be turned into a toothbrush holder. If you collect samples through out the year or shop in the travel section, this is an inexpensive gift at $1 – $7.

I put inside:

  • Shampoo, sample size
  • Washcloth
  • Toothbrush (foldable, found at Target in travel section)
  • Toothpaste, sample size
  • Dental Floss
  • Razor
  • Wisps (disposable toothbrushes)

P.S. check out this mason jar toothbrush holder from my friends at Lolly Jane, it could be perfect to create for a family! http://lollyjane.com/diy-mason-jar-bathroom-storage/

Ahhh yes, it’s that time again. Time to start planning out what we are doing for Halloween, one of our favorite holidays! From parties to decor, there is so much fun that surrounds Halloween!

I love creating little gifts for friends and neighbors no matter the occassion but Halloween always reminds me of being Boo’ed! A Boo bucket is filled with little treats and left on a neighbors door step to celebrate the spooky season. It’s all for funsies!

I created this easy Boo Bucket for neighbors out of……………. a Soup Container. Cute, right?! Even better, it’s extremely inexpensive and super easy.

Project: Halloween Boo Buckets

Time: Less than 5 Minutes

Supplies:

  • Soup/Food Containers w/ Lids (found at Smart & Final stores, $9 for 25 which equals $.36 a piece)
  • Washi Tape
  • Orange Cardstock
  • Scallop Punch
  • Dimensional adhesive square or scotch tape
  • Orange and Black Sheer Ribbon

How To:

  1. Decorate the containers w/ washi tape.
  2. Print out BOO on Orange Cardstock. I used the Addams font for my Boo Buckets.
  3. Punch the BOO with the Scallop Punch and adhere to the front with a dimensional adhesive or simply some scotch tape.
  4. Take the lid and punch out the second layer, there are already holes on top so you just need to make them a little bigger to feed the ribbon through. Tie a know with enough room that the buckets can hang on door handles.
  5. Fill with candy (I found a large 3.5 lb bag of Tootsie variety candies for $7.99 at Smart & Final , $2.28 lb)

If you want to take these Boo Buckets a step farther, you can get your whole neighborhood involved! Print out some Boo door signs and instructions to include with the Boo Bucket. When you give them a sign, they will hang it in their window or door letting other’s know they have been boo’ed. The cute poem’s that go with it let them know what the Boo-ing is all about! They will then hand out their own buckets with the poems and signs to others in the neighborhood. That way no one is boo’ed twice and everyone can have fun with it! We did it at my work a few years ago, and we also passed out little Halloween novelties with them.

Here are some free Boo Printable examples I found from some crafty friends that I love. Please visit their site and show them some love if you print their printables!
